Way Of The Entrepreneur: Fay’s Place

The next time someone gripes to you over coffee that “there’s nothing to doooooo” in Poplar Bluff, grasp the misguided soul by the scruff of the neck and head straight down to Fay’s Place.

Fay Brown is the proprietor of the most unique art space in Poplar Bluff, located at 2299 N. Main in a spacious structure that once housed a carpet store. Fay’s Place is an Fay 3extensive “artistic gallery” and a workspace for local and regional artists. It’s a place for instruction in a broad range of arts, including jewelry making, stained-glass construction, ceramics, beading, and painting. Also, Fay’s offers ready-made frames, and a custom-framing service equipped to handle everything from simple prints to tapestries, from hand-crocheted items to three-dimensional pieces requiring the popular “shadow box” framing. Visitors to the gallery will find affordable art in a wide variety of media.

Traveling Boys Baseball Team Holding Tryouts (9-10yr)

In order to gear up for the 2008 baseball season, semo.net’s Boy’s Traveling Little League Team will be holding tryouts on Saturday, September 22nd. Five of the 11-boy-team roster have been pre-selected and the remaining six positions will be considered from those trying out.

Requirements:

Sex: Boys
Age: Must be 9 or 10 on May 1st, 2008

Tryouts*:

When: 4pm, Saturday, September 22nd, 2007
Where: Whiteley Park, Poplar Bluff*
*Preference during tryouts will be given to those who pre-register via email (see note below).

Coaches:
The team will be coached by Mike Coleman and Brian Becker. Their coaching philosophy goes deeper than wanting a winning team, they train the boys in the fundamentals and finer points of the game. Though practices will be exhausting, the boys will be treated with respect and encouraged to have fun while playing one of the greatest games invented.

Travel Schedule:
The team has plans to play in at least 8 “live arm” weekend tournaments from April through July of 2008. Most of the tournaments will be played within 75 miles of Poplar Bluff, however, the team will be traveling to Columbia in late July.

Practice Schedule:
During the remaining Fall and Winter months, the team will conduct occasional practices with an expanded practice schedule beginning in February.

Uniforms:
Players’ entire uniform including pants, belts, jerseys, and caps will be provided by semo.net.

Team Fees:
Players will pay $25/month from April through July to supplement the tournament entry fees.

Registration For Tryouts:
By registering for tryouts, players will be pre-assigned a tryout number and given preference over non-registered players during the tryout (for example, extra evaluation swings). To register, send an email with the following information to baseball@semo.net.
