CNN Reported today:

The sport of polo needs new oversight to protect its prized horses, the nation’s largest animal protection organization said after reports that a pharmacy’s mistake with medication may have killed 21 animals. “This tragedy has brought to light the absence of drug policies and regulation within the sport of polo,” said Keith Dane, director of equine protection for the Humane Society of the United States.

This is the precise reason that our country gets in trouble. Read the rest of this entry »

In just a few short weeks the weather will warm us to the idea of shedding some layers of clothing and even trying on last summer’s bathing suit. It is then, when that Paul Lynde voice behind the dreaded mirror reflection either purrs and winks back or grimaces while hurling awful insults, that we are faced with the consequences of a long winter’s worth of food and exercise choices. I can think of two friends, off the top of my head, to whom the mirror will be kind, but if you are like me, you are woeful at the wiggliness of that skin between your elbow and arm pit, sickened at the size of your thighs, bothered by your blubbery belly… Can I get an “Amen” here, people?

On the slate for topics this morning with Rick Carl & Company, we will be talking about:

Conficker Virus

The Conficker worm is a computer worm that can infect your computer and spread itself to other computers across a network automatically, without human interaction. If you have an updated version of an AntiVirus program, you should not be at risk.

How Do I know if I have Conficker
To quickly find out if your PC might be one of the millions infected by Conficker, try clicking to Microsoft.com, Symantec.com, and McAfee.com. If you can get to these sites, you’re cool. But if your browser will not let you access any of these websites, then you very likely are infected with Conficker.

How does it work?

semo.net Hydra Internet Service makes the Wall Street Journal

Making a splash yesterday in Newspapers coast to coast, semo.net was touted as developing a service using a product from Mushroom Networks. This new offering was developed and designed by the employees of semo.net in cooperation with the design team from Mushroom Networks.

This new service offering was picked up by Wall Street Journal and several quotes from me were highlighted on the WSJ web site.

Windows 7.0 – Preview

We’ve been testing Windows 7.0, Microsoft’s latest operating system, and it is exactly what PC owners have been waiting for. The final release of W7 isn’t due out til the fall or later, but our technicians installed the beta software on one of our test systems that had XP previously. All of the installed programs running on W7 run faster than on XP, and when compared to Vista it is an even more impressive increase.

semo.net is already gearing up for the release of Windows 7.0 because we are in the process of creating a Windows 7 Upgrade Center. We will take your computer, upgrade your ram and your operating system for one low price that will beat the competition in price and turnaround time. At this point, our testing of Windows 7.0 gives us the confidence to suggest an upgrade to EVERYONE running Vista and will be recommending it for most computers running XP if your processor and RAM qualify.

A little over a year ago I attended Gateway Church with some friends who’d recently relocated to Dallas from Poplar Bluff. Setting the worshipful tone of the morning’s service included a young, female worship leader named Kari Jobe.

4ever

Wow. Never thought I’d have to write about this, but I certainly am glad I’ve got a forum to squelch this rumor:

This past week, Microsoft announced that David Porter will head up their Retail Chain. Porter has spent the past two years with Dreamworks and 25 years before that with WalMart.

Unfortunately, here in Southeast Missouri, Microsoft will probably not be on a corner near us any time soon (or ever for that matter). But just like Apple users who trek to St Louis every few months for an IV injection of all things Apple, I’m sure a Microsoft store in St Louis would drain a few local gas tanks.

Confession: Even though my wife’s iPod is our only apple product, I cannot walk past an Apple store. The Apple logo in a like a giant bug light—drawing the geek in my through its doors. I’ve enjoyed the Apple flagship stores in New York and Chicago as well as smaller ones located in malls.

Just like every other company, Microsoft constantly needs to shift, re-shape, and re-market itself for the next generation. [insert your favorite Vista joke here!] I certainly look forward to walking into a Microsoft store complete with the latest in home entertainment, home networking, computing, gaming and more.

I had just concluded a lecture-ette, warning my children not to believe that anything said or done on the iCarly show (or any TV show for that matter) resembled reality. “Try talking to your boss disrespectfully some day and see if your real life ‘audience’ cheers you on like that! No. You will end up on the street with your little box of office knickknacks.”

I have been introducing my boys to FBB (Flicks Before Birth) over the past year. Rediscovering some of my favorites movies has been great family fun. The other night we were watching Men In Black and I heard a quote that I missed the first time I watched this movie (I was probably getting a popcorn refill at the time). Agent K, Tommy Lee Jones, was filling in Will Smith’s character about the existence of aliens on planet earth:
